Dr. Obi Receives Frist Award

Memorial Hospital is proud to announce Dr. John Obi was named this year’s Frist Humanitarian Award in the physician category.

Named in honor of Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr., the Frist Humanitarian award recognizes individuals who serve the community and those in need and whose daily dedication and care giving epitomize the highest standards of quality and personal commitment.

For almost 50 years, HCA has celebrated individuals for their achievements and contributions to the community and to our organization through the Frist Humanitarian Awards. In recent years, we have also recognized employees through the Excellence in Nursing and the Innovators Awards. We call these three significant awards the HCA Awards of Distinction. They are the highest honor our company bestows on its most important resource– its people.

Dr. Obi is a native of Jacksonville and has been a part of the Memorial family for over 25 years. He is a proud family man and humble physician who is always encouraging new physicians starting their practices. He stands out for his dedication to the cleft lip and palate program. The lives of children with birth defects around the world have been changed by his work and his passion for this cause. His efforts in plastic surgery and cleft lip and palate have earned him national recognition and he has been a featured guest on ABC’s 20/20, speaking on cosmetic breast surgery. He has served as Chief of Plastic Surgery and President of the Florida Society of Plastic Surgery, and is currently Memorial’s Chief of Staff.

Dr. Obi, thank you for demonstrating Memorial’s commitment to compassion, excellence and innovation. We are immensely proud of your accomplishments.
