Breast Lift (Mastopexy) in Jacksonville, FL
Women in Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, Atlantic Beach and surrounding areas of Florida, know many ways to address the issue of sagging breasts, but the techniques do not always work. Breast lift surgery corrects the issues that cause your breasts to sag, and Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. John Obi explains the details of the procedure during your consultation.
What is a Breast Lift?
The breast lift, or mastopexy procedure, is performed at Jacksonville Plastic Surgery in our on -site surgical facility by Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. John Obi on an outpatient basis. Local anesthesia with sedation is used and the procedure is usually completed within 1 to 3 hours, depending on the actual lift procedure required. The Jacksonville Plastic Surgery Center is an accredited ambulatory surgery center.
What are the Benefits of a Breast Lift?
The decision to undergo a breast lift operation is a very personal one. Some of the most frequent factors affecting this decision include:
- Raising and reshaping the breasts after pregnancy or weight loss
- Restoring firmness to the breasts in conjunction with an enlargement procedure
- Reducing the size of the areola (darker skin around the nipple).
The breast lift can enhance a woman’s appearance and self-confidence, in addition to making clothing selection easier as a result of a more balanced and desirable shape. Women of all ages find the breast lift procedure to be a most rewarding and beneficial experience.
What are Your Options for a Breast Lift Procedure?
There are several different types of breast lift procedures performed at Jacksonville Plastic Surgery by Jacksonville plastic surgeon Dr. John Obi. These include the upper areolar (‘crescent’), concentric (‘donut’), vertical (‘lollipop’) and the most common procedure, an anchor-shaped incision following the natural contour of the breast. The actual procedure selected in each case depends on the findings during examination, the patient’s wishes and whether an implant is to be added.
What Happens During Breast Lift Surgery?
Your plastic surgeon will make an incision to outline the area from which the breast skin will be removed and define the new location for the nipple. When the excess skin has been removed, the nipple and areola are moved to a higher position. The skin surrounding the areola is then brought down and together to reshape the breast. There will be very few sutures actually visible at the completion of the surgery, with the majority of the sutures beneath the skin.
There are risks involved with any surgical procedure and the specific risks and restrictions after surgery will be discussed in detail at your consultation. Before the surgery, patients are advised to avoid smoking and taking medications (aspirin, Vitamin E, etc.) that may affect bleeding.
What is the Downtime After a Breast Lift?
There are physical restrictions immediately following the surgery, but patients are usually able to return to full physical activity within three weeks. The actual period of physical restrictions will of course vary with the actual procedure that is performed.
