One saving grace in Michigan’s merciless winter is clothing, lots of it.
Bundling up in layers protects bare skin from exposure to extreme weather. Even more than a few seconds of exposing bare skin to extreme cold can be damaging, experts say.
But with spring 20 days away, and many Michiganders heading for warmer climes, those clothes will have to come off eventually.
Area skin experts offered tips and remedies to make sure what’s underneath is ready to bare.
Esthetician Stacie Edie from A Day Away Spa in Port Huron suggested a body scrub and a steam which can be done at the spa or at home, followed by hydration with coconut oil.
“Do that a couple of times before you go to Mexico and your skin is going to be healthy and literally glowing,” she said.
Port Huron dermatologist Dr. John Pelachyk advised against taking ‘glow’ too literally, especially when it comes to tanning.
“If you’re getting ready to go to a warmer climate, should you go to a tanning booth? The answer is, ‘No.’ I know it’s very tempting, but you really don’t need a pre-tan. There are sunless tanners and different options we didn’t have a few years ago that simulate a real tan fairly well.”Read more.
